Flight Training at Locarno Airport

AELO Swiss Academy trains pilots from its main base at Locarno Airport — Via Aeroporto 21, 6596 Gordola, Switzerland — an EASA Approved Training Organization (CH.ATO.0311) operating since 1985.

Our Base at Locarno Airport

Located in the scenic Ticino region near the shores of Lake Maggiore, Locarno Airport offers an exceptional year-round training environment. With more than 320 flying days per year, students benefit from one of the most reliable flying climates in the Alps — which keeps training schedules moving and programs on track.

Our campus at the airport includes modern classrooms, briefing rooms, a fleet maintained to airline standards, and a full flight-simulation suite — including a Diamond DA42 simulator and an MPS 737NG flight training device.

Getting Here

  • By car: Locarno Airport is signposted from the A13/Lake Maggiore axis; free student parking on site.
  • By train: Locarno station is a short taxi ride from the airport; direct services run from Bellinzona and Zurich.
  • By air: Lugano Airport — our satellite base, 10 NM south — connects to European hubs, and Milan Malpensa is just over an hour away, giving students easy international access.

Training Environment

Training at Locarno puts students in a dynamic airspace: mountainous terrain, international transits toward Milan airspace, and a working aerodrome shared with airline and helicopter operators. It is an environment that mirrors real airline operations from day one — which is why candidates from more than ten countries train here.

Satellite base: Lugano Airport, Via Aeroporto, 6982 Agno — used for selected flight phases, 10 NM south of Locarno.
